About My Partner
I have a feeling that if my thoughts were ever made public, I would need a very good lawyer. Not because there is anything criminal happening in my head, but because the evidence would be presented completely out of context. For example, I might look at a perfectly ordinary stranger and suddenly wonder what their biggest secret is. Not because I want to discover it, but because I find it incredible that every person walking past me has an entire private universe. Someone might be carrying the happiest news of their life. Someone else may have just made a decision that changes everything. And there they are, standing in line for groceries, looking as if absolutely nothing remarkable is happening. I think about things like this more often than is probably necessary. My imagination has a tendency to turn ordinary situations into little investigations. If two people at a restaurant suddenly stop talking, I wonder whether they have run out of things to say or are enjoying a comfortable silence. If someone starts smiling at their phone, I wonder what kind of message could produce that particular expression. I never actually interfere, of course. I simply conduct these highly unscientific studies from a respectful distance. I suppose this is why I love reading. A good book gives you access to the one place you can never fully enter in real life, another person's mind. You get to see their thoughts, their excuses, their contradictions and the little lies they tell themselves. Sometimes I finish a story and realize that I have spent several hours sympathizing with someone I would probably avoid in real life. That is a rather impressive trick for a collection of printed pages. I also like the fact that people are rarely as predictable as they appear. Someone who looks terribly serious might have an absurd sense of humor. A person who seems carefree may be carrying enormous responsibilities. And the woman who looks perfectly composed at the gym might be mentally negotiating with herself about whether the final exercise is truly necessary. I refuse to confirm or deny that last example. What I find less interesting is the modern obsession with looking as though everything is under control. I don't need my life to resemble a carefully arranged display window. I want to learn things, make discoveries, occasionally embarrass myself and collect experiences that would be impossible to explain in a perfectly elegant social media caption. I am not particularly afraid of looking foolish. I am much more afraid of becoming so concerned with looking impressive that I stop enjoying myself. And now I am here, on a dating site, where everyone is trying to explain who they are in a limited amount of space. I find that both amusing and strangely hopeful. Somewhere among these photographs and introductions might be a man with an entire universe of thoughts I have never encountered. I would like to discover that universe gradually. Not by interrogating him, but through the little things that appear naturally when two people begin to trust each other. The unexpected memories, the strange opinions, the stories he almost forgot and the things he has never found a reason to tell anyone. I am interested in love and a relationship where that
My favorite hobby is learning languages. I love discovering how people from different countries express their thoughts, feelings and even humor. Sometimes one unusual word can tell you more about a culture than an entire travel guide. And I find it fascinating that the same sentence can sound romantic in one language and absolutely ridiculous in another!
I came to this dating site with a simple but exciting idea. Somewhere in the world there is a man whose story hasn't crossed mine yet, and perhaps one conversation is all it takes to change that. I want a relationship where friendship grows into attr
